Simon Phillip Cowell was born on October 7, 1959 in Lambeth, London to his parents Eric Philip Cowell and Julie Brett. Simon grew up in Elstree, Hertfordshire. His father was an estate agent and music industry executive and his mother worked as ballet dancer. Simon attended ‘Radlett Preparatory School’ and ‘Dover College’. Cowell was not great in studies and didn’t develop much interest in academics, and later dropped out. Simon Cowell had a fine interest in music and films, he always wanted to do something great in that area.
Career
Simon Cowell started his career as a runner on the sets of movie ‘The Shining’. In year 1979, Cowell became an assistant to A&R executive. In early 1980s, he formed E&S Music Company, but soon it was shut off. In year 1985, Cowell created Fanfare records named company and released songs like ‘So Macho’ and ‘Toyboy’, they were declared a massive success, but the company aagai closed down in year 1989. He was offered the position of an A&R Consultant by BMG in 1989. His responsibility was to scout for talent and find new artists for the company. He did well and introduced artists like Robson & Jerome to the music industry. From year 2001 to 2003, Cowell hosted show ‘Pop Idol’ and was famous for his extra straight forward comments and extreme blunt comments on contestants. In year 2002, he founded ‘Syco’ and entered into joint venture with Sony entertainment and produced hit shows like ‘The X Factor’ and ‘Got Talent’. Simon also hosted the show ‘American Idol’ and also created the show ‘The X. factor’. In recent years, Cowell has produced shows like ‘American Inventor’, ‘Rock Rivals’ and ‘Red or Black’.
