Metallica is an old and influential American band from the decade of 80s and 90s. Metallica was formed in year 1981 in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of singer/guitarist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bass player Robert Trujillo. The band genre is pop/rock, it has released music in heavy metal, speed/thrash metal and hard rock. Metallica has been listed as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time and also a best-selling artists of all time. Metallica as won 23 Grammy nominations for its 10 studio albums, four live albums, a cover album, five extended plays, 37 singles and 39 music videos.
Formation and Success
Metallica was formed in year 1981 in Los Angeles. The lead drummer Lars Ulrich placed an advertisement in newspaper to find metal musicians. James Hetfield responded to the advertisement after five months James Hetfield also joined the field. Earlier the part of band Dave /Mustaine, later left in 1983 and was replaced by Kirk Hammett.
In 1983, Metallica released ‘Kill Em All’ it’s very first album, which was completely thrash metal. It was a success and peaked at number 155 on the billboard 200. The first album basically lead them won a strong fan base it was not a financial success for Metallica. The second album was released on August 1984 and reached number 100 on billboard 200. Mustaine also got the credit of writing ‘riding the lightening’ and ‘The call of ktulu’.
From year 1986 to 1987, Metallica brought its third studio album ‘Master of Puppets’ in March 1986. The album remained top on chartbusters for more than 72 weeks and was a head banging success. It became first certified gold album of the band on November 4, 1986. Lot of tours began for this album, bassist Burton also died during this time.
And Justice for all was released in 1988, first studio album after Burton’s death. It also won Metallica its first Grammy nomination. Justice for all hit the top ten without any radio play and a little support from MTV. It has sold seven million copies. Metallica did three of touring to gain popularity and fan base. In year 1996, Metallica released song titled ‘Load’, it also rocked the billboard. By the time span of late 90s Metallica also released its famous hit songs like Fuel, The Memory remains, S&M etc. In year 2000, Metallica landed itself in controversy for legality and digitalizing of music against ‘Napster’. In June 2003, Metallica eight studio album ‘St. Anger’ it spotted on Billboard 200. The title song ‘St Anger’, won the Grammy award for best Metal performance in 2004. The album ‘Death Magnetic’ was released on September 2008. Death Magnetic remained at number one on the Billboard 200 and the European album chart; it also became the fastest selling album of 2008 in Australia.
Metallica continued dong great work, and released its next flick n year 2016 ‘Hardwired to self-destruct’, it was hugely listened and applauded among music listeners.
