When it got started?
The company was started by Herman Wittwer, an insurance salesman on 3rd October 1927 in Madison, Wisconsin as Farmers Mutual Insurance Company.
He started the initial work in the company by offering auto insurance and having the main focus on farmers of the country. The farmers were chosen by evaluating the risk of offering them the service. The company grew up gradually in the market by keeping its policy and product online with the changing needs.
In 1957 they came up with Farmers Mutual on sickness and accident insurance followed by homeowners and farm owners insurance. In 1963, they changed the company name to American Family Mutual Insurance
Company and introduced the commercial insurance business in 1975 thus becoming the fifth-largest mutual auto insurer.
It was in 1996 that company was ranked at 403 among Fortune 500 list followed by becoming the 10th largest property insurer with assets surpassing $8 billion. The business further expanded in Utah, Idaho, and Georgia covering 19 states in the United States.
Recently, the company has completed its merge with Florida based insurance company, The Main Street America Group followed by signing the name right agreement with Milwaukee Brewers in 2019.
