Warren Buffett is a famous American business personality known for being the CEO and chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and as the world’s most successful investor.
He is also a good speaker and philanthropist often called as Oracle of Omaha.
Early Life
Warren was born on 30th August 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, the United States as Warren Edward Buffett to Howard Buffett and LLeilaStahl Buffett.
He was raised in a family with his two siblings; Roberta and Doris Buffett. For education, he attended Rose Hill Elementary School, Alice Deal Junior High School, and Woodrow Wilson High School.
He was seven when he got inspired by the book, One Thousand Ways to Make $1000, and decided to start his own ventures selling, Coca-Cola bottles, chewing gum and weekly magazines but was forced by his father to complete his study at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He was later transferred to earn his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska. He also attended the New York Institute of Finance and
Columbia Business School earning his master's in Economics.
Career
Warren took great interest in the business at a young age. While attending Columbia Business School he was quite impressed by Benjamin Graham and in future utilized all the techniques he learned from him to start his firm Buffett Partnership Ltd. in his hometown in 1956.
He worked very well in identifying undervalued companies turning out his experience into money. One such company he came across was Berkshire Hathaway and he soon started accumulating stock in the early 1960s finally assuming control in 1965.
His firm was later dissolved by his founders in 1969 to fully concentrate on Berkshire Hathaway which expanded its work with investment in fields like insurance, oil, and gold.
He even remained at the post of director for various firms like Coca-Cola from 1989 to 2006, Citigroup Global Markets Holdings, The Gillette Company, and Graham Holdings Company.
He can be called a business tycoon as he formed the third-largest food and beverage company in North America by purchasing H.J. Heinz, Kraft Foods Group and Duracell in 2015. In 2016, he launched Drive2Vote encouraging voter power and in 2017 he sold out his IBM shares further investing in Apple and Bank of America.
Recently, he came up with JPMorgan Chase and Amazon to bring a healthcare company for their United States employees as of January 2018.
Personal Life
He got married twice. His first marriage was with Susan Thompson in 1952. Both together have three children; Susie, Howard, and Peter.
Susan and Warren got separated later in 1977 but remained in the marital relationship until Susan’s death.
He later got married to Astrid Menks in 2006 both share a long time companion relationship.
Net Worth
It is estimated to be around US$84.4 billion as on November 2018.
