About VD Philander
VD Philander or Vernon Darryl Philander is 34 years old South Africa’s right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler.
Considering him as an all-rounder he plays domestic cricket for Cape Cobras and has made his international debut in ODI match against Ireland in 2007.
He is well known for moving the ball in both ways at sharp speed and relentlessly attacking the stumps over long spells.
Early Life
VD Philander was born on 24th June 1985 in Bellville, Cape Province, South Africa as Vernon Darryl Philander. He started his early cricket career in 2001 with Western Province playing domestic career moving on to Cape Cobras in 2004.
Career
He started his early cricket career playing for South Africa’s Under-19 squad in World Cup in Bangladesh whereas on the domestic side he joined Cape Cobras playing an impressive inning in 2006-07 averaging 72 with the bat and 30 with the ball.
Soon he got his place fixed in the national squad going for ODI debut against Ireland in 2007 taking four wickets getting a direct seat for the T20 World Cup. His Test debut came up late in 2011 against Australia where he received Man of the Match title for taking 5 for 15 in second innings.
This also gave him Man of the Series title by taking in total 14 wickets in two Tests whereas for his third Test he took two successive five-fers against Sri Lanka thus naming after him the record of being the fifth player in Test history to take five wickets in an innings in each of his first three Tests.
He continued with his impressive performances counting up to 50 wickets and becoming the second-fastest bowler to achieve such fate.
His other record came up in 2013 against India where he took his 100th wicket in just his 19th match and becoming the sixth-fastest ever bowler to do so. His next achievement came in 2016 where he helped the national team to get 2-1 Test win in Australia.
In 2018, he got a chance to play in Mzansi Super League T20 tournament for Durban Heat. Recently he played a Test match against Sri Lanka in February 2019.

He is in a marital relationship with Mandy Hudson.
