Early life
Raul Castro has full name Raul Modesto Castro, he was born on June 3rd, 1931 in Biran, Cuba. His father was a landowner, Castro also has an older brother Fidel Castro. Talking about Castro’s studies, he has attended catholic school and also has studies social studies from a college in Santiago and Havana. During his college days, Raul joined the Socialist Youth, an affiliate of the Partido Socialista Popular (PSP, the Cuban Communist Party) and became a committed socialist.

Talking about Castro’s work life, he was convicted and sentenced for 13 years, when he with his brother on July 26, 1953, attack on the federal barracks at Moncada outside of Santiago because they were furied with the dictatorship of
Fulgencio Batista. By 1959, Raul Castro began his political career as the second-in-command to his brother, President Fidel Castro. He occupied the number two position in the three most important institutions of Cuban hierarchy; e.g. Council of State, the Council of Ministers, and the Communist Party of Cuba. 1972, Raul was named the First Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba. Castro was officially made President by the National Assembly on 24 February 2008, after Fidel Castro, who was still ailing, announced on 19 February 2008 that he would not stand for President again.
Castro was re-elected President on 24 February 2013. Castro announced that his second term would be his final term, and that he would not go for re-election in 2018.

Raul Castro is married once in his life, he toed the sacred knot of love and marriage with VilmaEspin on January 26, 1959. His wife is a chemical engineer from Universidad de Oriente Santiago de Cuba, and has done post-graduation from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The couple had four children: Deborah, Mariela, Nilsa, and Alejandro Castro Espín.
