About Coldplay
Coldplay is a famous British rock band. Formerly known as “Pectoralz” and then “Starfish” and lastly came as “Coldplay”. It was founded in 1996 by four students of University College of London which are Singer & Pianist- Chris Martin, Guitarist- Jonny Buckland, Bassist- Guy Berryman, and Drummer- Will Champion. Coldplay has released three extended plays and seven albums till date; all of its albums/songs have been the top numbers of every chartbusters in different countries. They are one of the bestselling music artists in UK chart history.
Formation & Development
Coldplay is an association of four friends having great amount of sense of music and style. It was firstly formed by Chris Martin & Jonny Buckland when they met at University College of London. Later Guy Berman joined there group being Martin’s & Buckland classmate. The trio started performing at clubs. They also engaged their long time school friend Phill Harvey as their band manager and named him as the fifth member of Coldplay. Later Will champion was trained as Drummer of the Group.
In its initial phase band recorded three eps- Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters and The Blue Room in 1999. After EPs Coldplay signed five album contract with Parlophone.
In 2000, Coldplay recorded its debut album “Parachutes”. Two singles of debut album “Shiver” and “Yellow” peaked its position UK singles chart. The third single “Trouble” reached number 10 in the UK charts. The album was released in UK by its record label “Parlophone” and North America by record label “Nettwerk”. Coldplay earned “Best British Group Award” & “Best British Album Award” in 2001 in Brit Awards. The album also won “Best Alternative Music Album” Honours at 2002 Grammy Awards.
In 2005, Coldplay released its third album “X&Y;”, it became best-selling album that year selling 8.3 million of copies. The single “Speed of Sound” secured number one position in 20 countries on various charts.
In 2008 "Viva La Vida or Death and all his friends" was announced and released by Coldplay. ‘Violet Hill’ was the first single released on April 29, 2008. It was an immediate hit and stood on top of the charts. Its title single “Viva La Via” was exclusively released on I tunes and became first number on Billboard top 100. The album was considered the best-selling album of 2008, considering its all tracks were declared hit by music listeners.
24th October, 2011 marked the release of Coldplay’s fifth studio album “Mylo Xyloto”. According to an interview given by Chris Martin and champion, the album is based on love, addiction and escape. It has beautiful tracks. Coldplay was also nominated for two Brit Awards for it. A single named ‘Paradise’ won the award of Best rock video; a total of 8 million copies were sold worldwide.
In 2014, “Ghost Stories” was released as the sixth album from Coldplay. The album was based on spirituality and unconditional love. Few songs of the immediate hit album are, ‘Midnight’, ‘Magic’, ‘a sky full of stars’ and ‘True love’. Ghost Stories received positive to mixed reviews, although it managed to topped in UK & USA, and gained huge popularity worldwide. It also won a Grammy award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
During an interview on BBC Radio 1 in 2014, Coldplay’s lead singer and guitarist Chris Martin confirmed that they are in middle of preparing their seventh album ‘A Head full of dreams’ and it can be the last studio album from the band. On 4th December 2015 was released, and its song “Adventure of a Lifetime’” was premiered on show, which marked guest appearances from Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Barack Obama, and many other celebrities. The album was declared and secured number position in UK and number second in USA.
