Carlos Slim Helu is 78 years old Mexican Business tycoon, engineer, investor, and philanthropist.
He is well known for being the wealthiest person in Mexico and also for owning the Grupo Carso, a Mexican global conglomerate company.
He is considered as the seventh richest person in the world by Forbes as of August 2018.
Early Life
Carlos was born on 28th January 1940 in Mexico City, Mexico to Julian Slim Haddad and Linda Helu Atta.
He was one of their six children. He was very young when he decided to learn from his father the skills of business, investment, and management.

To practice his skills he further decided to go for government saving bonds where he learned about compound interest at the age of 11.
He even did his first stock purchase at the age of 12 in Mexican banks and at the age of 17 starting earning 200 pesos a week from his father’s company.
For education, he attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico to earn his engineering degree in civil and to get a better hold on linear programming.
Career
It was in the 1960s when he starting making investments in a variety of businesses further laying the foundation of Grupo Carso making it the premium company to earn interests in the field of communications, insurance, energy, mining, retailing, publishing, and finance.
But the real turn came in his life when he purchased a variety of companies at bargain prices during the economic crash of 1982.
He later managed to increase the value of these purchases in the market within a span of a decade and attained a billionaire status.
He also owned the national telephone monopoly, Telefonos de Mexico setting out his platform to broaden the perspective of investing in American technology and telecommunication.
His other management includes Telmex and CompUSA. He soon became the largest shareholder of the New York Times Company, luxury retailer Saks, Citigroup, and Circuit City.
In 2017, he has launched a television network in the Spanish language called Nuestra Vision.
Now he holds the position of the seventh wealthiest person in the world as on August 2018 Forbes list.
Personal Life
He got married to Soumaya Domit in 1967 and remained in the relationship until her death in 1999.
He is the father of six children; Carlos, Marco Antonio, Patrick Soumaya, Vanessa and Johanna.
Achievements
He is the recipient of The National Order of the Cedar in 2008 which was given away by the Lebanese government.
Net Worth
It is estimated to be around US$59.2 billion as of November 2018.
