Bill Cosby is a famous personality. He is 81 years old, and has done multiple works in various lines; he is an actor, musician, producer and popular stand-up comedian. He has been a sure shot entertainer for decades; he got very popular for his long-running show “The Cosby Show” which was telecasted from 1984 to 1992. He changed/affected the perception of society/T.V viewers towards black people. Early life
Bill Cosby AKA William Henry Cosby Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 12, 1937 to his parents William Henry Cosby Sr. and Anna Pearl. His father worked in US Navy and his mother worked as a maid. He is the first born child of his parents and has three younger siblings. Bill Cosby was very keen towards acting and comedy from his high school days itself. He went to Fitzsimons Junior High School, Central High School. He actively participated in school drama. He dropped from school before clearing his 10th grade. At the age of 19, Bill Cosby joined ‘US Navy’ and served there for four years. He later joined ‘Temple University’ to pursue further studies.
Professional Career
Bill Cosby owns a natural talent of making people laugh, his humour is very funny. He gave up his education at Temple University to work as a stand-up comedian at clubs in Philadelphia, he was convinced by his ability of comic timing and always wanted to make a mark in comedy. His popularity spread and he started dong shows in various cities. Cosby debuted on television in 1963, and first appeared on NBC show ‘The Tonight show’. He also released his comedy albums named ‘Bill Cosby is a very funny fellow..Right’ and ‘To Russell, My Brother, Whom I slept with’. In 1965, Bill Cosby was cast in NBC Adventure series “I Spy”, it can be considered a huge success in his career, and he played the character “Scott”, an undercover spy. This show made him won ‘Emmy award’ for the ‘Outstanding lead actor in a Drama series’ for continuous three years. He also appeared on various light hearted comedy shows like ‘Silver Throat: Bill Cosby Sings’ and animation series ‘Fat Albert and the Cosby kids’. Being an African-American, Cosby promoted many African-American performers. In 1974 Cosby was starred in action-comedy movie ‘Uptown Saturday Night’ and others ‘Let’s do it again’ and ‘A Piece of the Action’. His greatest body of work is considered his movie ‘Bill Cosby: Himself’. In 1984 once again NBC and Bill Cosby collaborated and released a gem of shows ‘The Cosby Show’ a story of African-American family, proved an instant hit and telecasted for 8 years. He later also appeared on many shows like ‘Cosby’, ‘Little bill’. In 2013 Bill Cosby came up with the show ‘Bill Cosby: Far from the finished’ and it was also very high in ratings.
Personal Life
Bill Cosby has been since the age of twenty seven. He tied the wedding knot with TV Producer Camille Hanks on January 25, 1964. The couple together share five children, out of which two died. Bill Cosby has three grandchildren also.
Controversies
Bill Cosby faced a huge setback in his career in 2018. He has been convicted guilty by court of law on the grounds of sexual abuse towards women, child sexual abuse, drug facilitated sexual abuse. The disgraced star has been rose to negative limelight when around more than 50 women came forward to disclose his pervert acts and accusations of rape conduct in mid 2010s. He has been sentenced three to ten years in state prison and levied with $25,000 penalty. This made channels like “NBC” cancelled their contract with him.
