Bernie Sanders is an American Politician who is currently serving as the junior United States Senator from Vermont since the year 2007. He was also the candidate for Democratic party for the nomination of president of the United States in year 2016.
Early life
Bernie Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York City, United States on September 8, 1941. He was born to parents Dorothy and Eli Sanders, his father worked as a paint salesman and they were migrants from Poland. Bernie Sanders attended James Madison High School and was also enrolled to Brooklyn College and later moved to University of Chicago. Sanders graduated with Bachelors of Arts degree in political science in 1964.
Career
Bernie Sanders tried his hands on many things, he has following stints of filmmaker, writer etc. In 1981, he was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont, by only 12 votes. In 1990, he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. An independent candidate, he now needed to find political allies to advance his issues, so he entered into a caucus with the
Democrats and co-founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus. As outspoken man, he vocally criticised the Iraq War and was concerned about the social and financial impact it would cause. Sanders served in the House from 1991 until he became a senator.
Personal Life
Bernard Sanders has been married twice; he was married to Deborah Shiling and later sadly divorced also. The couple has no children together. Later on, Sanders formed a relationship with a woman named Susan Campbell Mott; they also had a son from their relationship in 1969.
Few years later, Sanders married Jane O’ Meara Driscoll and they three children and seven grandchildren.
