MA Wood or Mark Andrew Wood is 29 years old English right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast bowler who can bowl around 90 mph speed. He is presently playing the domestic game with Durham club and has made his international debut for England in ODI match against Ireland in May 2015.
Early Life
MA Wood was born on 11th January 1990 in Ashington, Northumberland, England as Mark Andrew Wood to Derek Wood. He completed his education attending Ashington High School and follows Christianity. His uncle Neil Wood is also a cricketer who has represented Northumberland’s team. He started his early career playing for Northumberland from 2008 to 2010 where he made his 3 MCCA Knockout Trophy and 3 Minor Counties Championship appearances. This was also the time when he got encouraged by Stephen Harmison, the former England cricketer at age 18 to visit Australia and improve his game.
Career
His start was made with Northumberland in 2008. He played for the club till 2010 and later joined Durham in 2011 where he gave his excellent performance getting 19
wickets at 21.63 in his first season followed by 5-for that won his side the game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on August 2012. Soon he went for breakthrough summer performance after being put forward in-game by Paul Collingwood. In 2013, he got his hand over 27 first-class wickets at 24.07 to help Durham in Championship followed by selection in England Lions tour to Sri Lanka. His next season didn’t start well as he got an ankle problem but he somehow managed to play for Lions in 2015 further getting his national call for being in the Test squad for the Caribbean. He made his ODI debut against Ireland in May 2015 getting his first international wicket. He also went for Test debut against New Zealand. In 2016, he helped Durham to get into the finals of NatWest T20 Blast. He also played against Pakistan in ODI series helping England for the 4-1 victory. Later his ankle injury left him out from the tour to Bangladesh and India but he made a drastic come back in 2018 IPL for Chennai Super Kings followed by some Tests in Christchurch and against Pakistan at Lord’s with an average pace of 87mph. He recently got selected for the 2019 England’s squad for Cricket World Cup.
