Sports Authority
Sports Authority was an American retail company that operated retail stores in the United States and Puerto Rico till 2016. The company was based in Englewood, Colorado.
It was acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods on 28 July 2016 in an auction. At the time of acquisitions, there were more than 450 stores operated by the company.
They sold products of various brands that include Sims, Aspire, Alpine Design, Tommy Armour, SA Gear, Bodyfit, and Parkside.
The main competitors of the company were Big 5 Sporting Goods, MC Sports, Modell’s, City Sports, and Academy Sports + Outdoors.
Presently, the official website of Sports Authority redirects the visitors straight to the website of Dick Sporting Goods.
Sports Authority History
The company was established in 1928 as Gart Sports, whereas they opened their first store in 1971 in Denver, Colorado.
They expanded in the US market by acquiring many companies, such as Stevens Brown of Salt Lake City, Hagan’s Sports Limited, and Leonard Green & Partners.
The company declared bankruptcy in March 2016 because of the debt issues. Soon after that, it was acquired by the Dick’s Sporting Goods in an auction.
