Optus is an Australian
telecommunication company who works as a division of SingTel. Some of the main services offered by the company are fixed telephony, mobile telephony, data transmission, cable television, internet access, and leased lines. The present workforce of the company is around 9,000 employees. As of 2014 records, the revenue of the company was A$ 8.93 billion, whereas their net income in the same year was A$ 764 million.
They sell their retail services through retail outlets, internet or phone. Furthermore, it is available in franchise chains, such as Network Communications, Allphones, Strathfield, Optus World, and Telechoice. Along with operating their own network infrastructure, the company also utilizes the wholesale solutions of Telstra and National Broadband Network.
Optus History
The company was launched in 1981 as AUSSAT Pty Limited by the Australian government. AUSSAT was sold to Optus in January 1991 who changed its name to Optus Communications Pty Limited. However, they change their name again to Optus later.
Optus Subsidiaries
There are many subsidiaries owned by the company that includes Virgin Mobile Australia, SIMplus, Uecomm, and Alphawest. Uecomm is involved in a business to provide voice networks as well as high bandwidth data to medium and bigger companies, whereas Alphawest is specialized in the development of ICT systems. On the other hand, Virgin Mobile Australia is a telecommunication company selling broadband internet, prepaid and postpaid phones.
