There are more than 443,000 employed by the company for controlling their operations nationally. The company was established in 1883 by Bernard Kroger when he opened first store in Cincinnati, Ohio. In United States, they are third biggest employer. They own many different type of store formats, such as superstores, department stores, supermarkets, and jewellery stores.

In addition, Kroger own 6 bakeries that are situated in the cities of Anderson, Columbus, Indianapolis, Denver, La Habra, Layton, and Greensburg. They also operate two meat plants in the Denver and Vernon. The products of the company are available in three quality tiers, named Private Selection, Banner Brands, and Value Brand.
