When did it start in Ohio?
The parent company AEP got started in 1906 as American Gas and Electric Company replacing the major holder of this business the Electric Company of America and later getting renamed as AEP in 1958.
At first, they brought the project of generating electricity at Philo Power Plant in 1923 further maintaining their central system between Michigan and Virginia and moving out their headquarter from New York City to Columbus, Ohio.

Initially, they were doing their business with two operating companies that later got merged as a single unit called Ohio Power for all regulatory purposes.
