A & W Restaurants is an American company operating fast-food restaurants in over 15 countries around the globe. The company’s corporate office is situated in Lexington, Kentucky, United States. This chain was started in 1923 by Roy W. Allen and Frank Wright with a single location in Lodi, California. The slogan of the company is “All American Food”. The menu of the company generally consists of a great variety of foods, such as hot dogs, root beer, burgers, chicken, sweets and much other kid’s meals. Overall, there are more than 1,200 locations operated by the company that includes franchise as well as self-owned restaurants. The name of this fast-food chain has been taken from the last name of the founders Allen and Wright.
A&W History
The founders of the company started selling root beer in their first restaurant. After that, they continuously added new items in their menu that include burgers, hot dogs, etc. However, the company was sold in 1950 and the new owner started offering franchise contracts. The company crosses international borders in 1956 when they open their branches in the cities of Winnipeg and Toronto. After some years, they expand to Asian countries, like Malaysia and Philippines.
The Canadian division of A&W was sold to Unilever in 1972. The remaining company was bought by the A. Alfred Taubman in 1982. The company opened their first branch in Bangladesh in 2010. Presently, they operate two branches in that country, one each in the cities of Gulshan and Dhanmondi.
