45 years ago a public home furnishings rent-to-own company got started up in Wichita, Kansas, United States of America and is now headquartered in Plano, Texas, United States.

What is its origin?
Ernie Talley got an idea in the 1960s to start such a business when he told one of his customers, Mr. T’s Rental that they own a rented washer and dryer after they had paid in full the rented amount to him.
This idea was grabbed by Thomas Devlin, the former employee of Mr. T’s Rental and he partnered with W. Frank Barton to name a brand Rent-A-Center and start-up with a business like this in Wichita, Kansas in 1973.
Later Mark Speese joined the company as CEO and continued till 2014. Now Mitchell Fadel serves the company as head CEO.
