Sean Combs popularly known as ‘Diddy’ or ‘P. Diddy’ is a three time Grammy Award winning American rapper, entrepreneur and record producer. He owns a record label Bad Boy Entertainment and is at present the second-richest hip hop recording artist according to Forbes with estimated $825 million net worth.
Sean was born on 4th November, 1969 in New York City, New York as Sean John Combs to Janice and Melvin Earl Combs. He was raised in Mount Vernon, New York in a family of father who served in U.S Air Force and was associated with drug dealing business by partnering with Frank Lucas whereas his mother was a model and teacher’s assistant. He was just two years old when his father was shot dead in his car in 1974.
Keeping his past aside, he moved on to attend Mount Saint Michael Academy getting graduated in 1987. This was also the time when he got his nickname “Puffy” because of his habit of puffing out his chest during football game showing his anger. He later joined Howard University majoring in business administration and used to produce weekly dance parties and run an airport shuttle service while attending classes. He then dropped out to pursue an internship at Uptown Records.
Sean started his career by joining as an intern at Uptown Records where he developed Jodeci and Mary J. Blige career as a talent director. He was later positioned as vice president after getting success in producing several key artists for Uptown, but left out the company in early 1990s to start his own production company, Bad Boy Entertainment. He then started working with established and upcoming artists like Babyface, TLC, Boyz II Mn, New Edition, Mariah Carey, Method Man, Lil’Kim, SWV, Faith Evans and Biggie Smalls.
He soon came to limelight receiving ASCAP’s songwriter of the Year title in 1996 and selling over $100 million records further dealing with Arista Records for management. He also recorded a tribute single for his friend Biggie Smalls titled “I’ll be Missing You” that charted on top of Billboard for eleven weeks. His first album, No Way Out (1997) also made to platinum status selling over 3.4 million copies in United States. With the success of his debut album, he reached the pinnacle of his music career and went to produce more hit albums like Forever, The Saga Continues, Press Play and Last Train to Paris. Aside he even worked on television by making his appearance in American TV sitcom, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia plus some movies of him in the list includes Made, Monster’s Ball and Get Him to the Greek. His other ventures include the launch of music-oriented cable network called REVOLT in 2013 and in 2017 he went to own National Football League’s Carolina Panthers with other prominent athletes interested in an ownership stake.
He dated many celebrities and is now father of six. His first child was born to designer Misa Hylton-Brim in 1993 named Justin. Later he began his relationship with Kimberly Porter adopting son named Quincy. Both also had a son named Christian and twin daughters, D’Lila Star and Jessie James. He also has a daughter named Chance from his other relationship with Sarah Chapman.
