Manhasset is a railway station situated on the Long Island Rail Road’s Port Washington Branch in Manhasset, New York. The station was originally built in 1899 as a small wooden structure.
The current station was re-innovated in the 1920s in a trench at Plandome Road and Maple Place, off Park Avenue, five blocks north of Northern Boulevard. It is located 17.2 miles from Pen Station in Midtown Manhattan.
A high-level platform was brought up in the 1970s. Though the line only has a single track, it has more parking spaces than the other nearby stations on the line thus, being used by many commuters who do not live in Manhasset.
History
Manhasset station was built by the Great Neck and Port Washington Railroad in 1899, the year after which Manhasset Viaduct was completed. It was the last but one station along the branch until Plandome station was built to the Northeast in 1909.
On October 21, 1913, the station was electrified. Manhasset station was then rebuilt in 1924 in the Dutch colonial style typical of stations such as Riverhead, Bay, Mineola, Northport, Shore, and was restored from around 1999 to 2001 with more additional features like the canopies and staircases.
The station's layout
The station has one long side platform capable of holding up to 10 cars on the south side of the track. A side platform refers to a platform position to the side of a pair of railway tracks at the station, tram stop, or transitway.
It has been built in a way that it supports access by the disabled and also provides a good parking zone.
It is also well equipped with up to 4 fare zones enhancing faster operations at the station. The station connects to Nassau Inter-County Express i.e. n20H and n21 at Northern Boulevard.
