Early lifeMahendra Singh Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand, which was then in Bihar, India. He was born on July 7, 1981. His father, Pan Singh, is retired employee of MECON (a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Steel), where he worked in junior management positions. His mother Devaki Devi is a housewife. Dhoni attended DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Dhoni was attracted towards football first; he was the goalkeeper of his school football team. But once he played as wicket keeper in a match in a local club of cricket. He astonished everyone with his performance and secured a permanent spot as the regular wicket keeper in the Commando cricket club team for three years during 1995-98.

Personal LifeMahendra Singh Dhoni is married to his wife Sakshi Singh Rawat Dhoni. They tied the sacred knot of love and commitment on July 4, 2010 after briefly dating for almost 2.5 years; they met at Taj Bengal, where she worked as an intern after completing her graduation in Hotel Management from the Institute of Hotel Management, Aurangabad. Although, the two knew each other during their childhood years as their fathers were colleagues at MECON and they both attended the same school, she was seven years younger to him.
They both welcomed their first child, their daughter on February 6, 2015 and named her Ziva.
