Gina Rinehart is 65 years old Australian business executive and is well known for being the head of Western Australian mining company, Hancock Prospecting. She is also considered to be the most powerful women in Australia by the early 21st century and also to be the wealthiest person. Her contribution to raise the issues of taxation and government regulations even showed her presence in pro-business activism.

Early Life

Gina was born on 9th February, 1954 in Perth, Australia as Georgina Hope Hancock to Hope Margaret Nicholas and Lang Hancock. She was raised in family as the only child and attended St. Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls for her early education. Later she joined University of Sydney to complete her study in economics which she left out of interest to join her father’s business in iron-ore industry.

Career

Gina was young when she was groomed to succeed her father’s mineral exploration and extraction company that was founded in 1950s hence while attending University of Sydney she became more interested in her father’s
 
 
business and left out her studies to do so. She inherited Hancock Prospecting Pty Limited and the HPPL Group of companies as expected after the father’s death in 1992. She became the chairperson of company and focused mainly on developing the company’s underdeveloped deposits by making several joint venture partnerships with Rio Tinto and Mineral Resources Limited at Nicholas Downs to raise capital. Her efforts proved beneficiary and she soon turned out to be an astute businesswoman over the ensuing years. She was named as the richest woman in the world with the title of being the most successful business people in Australia. She is even a shareholder in media companies like Ten Network Holdings and Fairfax plus has acquired Fossil Downs in 2015. She also came up with public statements on government policy issues, especially raising the point of excessive regulation and taxation in the resource sector. In October 2018, she announced the opening of fourth mine which was under development.

Achievements

She has received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014 given away by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Personal Life

She married twice. Her first marriage was with Greg Hayward in 1973 that ended up soon in 1981 with divorce. Both together have two children; John Hayward-Hancock and Bianca Hope Rinehart. In 1983 she married Frank Rinehart, a corporate lawyer in Las Vegas. Frank died in 1990 but together they have two children; Hope and Ginia.
