David Cooperfield is 62 years old American entertainer, illusionist and a world famous magician. He is categorised as one of the best known stage illusionists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries from his popular acts.
Early life
David was born on 16th September, 1956 in Metuchen, New Jersey, United States as David Seth Kotkin to Rebecca and Hyman Kotkin. He was raised in family of father working in men’s haberdashery named Korby’s whereas mother used to work as an insurance adjuster. He attended Metuchen High School graduating in 1974. His interest in magic began in early age of 10 and he soon gained attention of Society of American Magicians becoming the youngest person to be included as a member at age 12. His work led him to teach a course of magic at New York University at the age of 16 and to further perform under professional name David Cooperfield, after the popular Charles Dickens novel.
Career
His career as a magician started at a very young age performing under the name David Cooperfield followed by teaching magic at age 16 at New York University. He also made a brief stint at Fordham University and got casted in the lead role in the Chicago musical, The Magic Man. The show became successful and he got his next job hosting an ABC magic special gaining national television exposure and making the performance of his magic feats for more than 500 times a year.
Some of his most popular acts in magic include walking through the Great Wall of China, making the Statue of Liberty to disappear and further escaping from a flaming raft over Niagara Falls. These all performances led him achieve in total 21 Emmy Awards under the title of Magician of the Century and Magician of the Millennium. He has also received honour as a living magician the first star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with the prestigious U.S. Library of Congress’ Living Legend Award. Among his other projects, he launched Project Magic in 1982 which was known for using sleight-of-hand magic as a method of physical therapy. He also opened up the International Museum and Library of the Conjuring Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada which holds the world’s largest magical artefact collection and is working on the way to further preserve the history and art of magic. Recently, he is working on unique platform named as Musha Cay and the Island of Cooperfield Bay, where he operates his chain of eleven resort islands in the Bahamas.
Personal Life
He was previously in relationship with Claudia Schiffer, a German supermodel. Both remained engaged for six years together but ultimately decided to separate out in September 1999. He is at present dating Chloe Gosselin, a French fashion model with whom he has a daughter named Sky born in February 2010.
