About Anup Jalota
Anup is 65 years old Indian devotional singer and musician who is well known for performing Hindu music bhajan and the Urdu form of poetry, ghazal. He recently came into controversies for making an entry in the Indian television reality show, Bigg Boss 12, on Colors TV with his disciple and girlfriend Jasleen Matharu. The two shares age gap of 37 years.
Early Life
Anup Jalota was born on 29th July, 1953 in Nainital, Uttarakhand, India in Punjabi-Khatri family of Purshottam Das Jalota who was also a famous Bhajan singer. From his childhood he was very fond of singing like his father and thus learned from them. He shared his childhood memories with two younger brothers; Anil and Ajay Jalota and two sisters; Anjali Dhir and Anita Mehta. The family have the roots of origin from Phagwara, Punjab, India.
He is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 80 kg having black eyes and hair. Among his hobbies he loves travelling, reading, writing and singing. As of 2018, he has earned over 100 Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum discs.
Career
He
started his career by singing devotional bhajans and was therefore nicknamed as Bhajan Samrat. He received his initial training in music from his father Purshottam Das Jalota and Bhatkhande Vidyalaya in Lucknow. His musical journey was started as a singer for legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s stage shows. He then managed to get a job in All India Radio as a chorus singer and soon his bhajans caught the attention of society thus turning him into a household name.
He has done various performances with renowned musicians since then like Lata Mangeshkar, Pankaj Udhas, Zakir Hussain, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and many more. He also came up as a presenter from 2002-2005 on Star Plus show, Dharam Aur Hum. He recently participated as contestant on reality show Bigg Boss 12 on Colors TV with Jasleen Matharu.
Personal life
He married thrice. His first marriage was with Sonali Sheth, who was his music student. Both went against their parents wish and got married but later ended with divorce. His second marriage was with Bina Bhatia which also ended in divorce and later he again married third time with Medha Gujral. Both have a son named Aryaman. His third wife died of liver failure in 2014. At present, he is in rumour for dating a girl named Jasleen Matharu who is 37 years younger than him.
