Virgin Active South Africa is one of the divisions of the company from where it controls their operations in the South African cities. The company’s global head office is situated in London, United Kingdom whereas the South African’s division has their headquarters in Cape Town. The health chain is jointly owned by the Christo Wiese and Virgin Group who have 80% & 20% shares respectively. The gym chain was launched in 1999 by Richard Branson as a part of Virgin Group with a single branch in Preston, Lancashire, but soon expanded and now reached to over 250 health clubs.

South Africa is the biggest market for the Virgin Active where they operate more than 130 branches in the different parts of the country. Virgin Active SouthAfrica enters the country’s healthcare market by acquiring Health and Racquet Club chain in October 2000 and then they expanded to other countries across the world.
