The app recently made a headline on the internet by merging with musical.ly on 2nd August 2018.

The app came into existence on September 2016 in China with a launch by ByteDance, a Chinese Internet technology company.
The app was initially launched in the country and later decided to expand its work in Indonesia on September 2017.
Soon the popularity of the appraised its standard among other free mobile apps and received the title of being #1 free mobile app to be downloaded in Thailand in January 2018.
The app also holds the partnership tie with Modern Sky to monetize music and recently got merged with musical.ly, a Shanghai-based social media service known for creating and sharing short videos on 2nd August 2018.
Together they are working on creating a larger video community with all existing accounts under the same platform and name Tik Tok.

The app is worth using as they offer users to lip-sync to songs, shoot their own short videos with editing features and special effects plus also allow them to watch out videos available on the platform.

They also have a security feature of making the account private. It is now headquartered in Los Angeles, California with global offices in Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, London, Jakarta, Singapore, Mumbai, and Moscow.
The app is appreciated worldwide and is available for iOS and Android.
Does the app go for controversies?
Yes, the app was blocked in Indonesia for a week on some illegal contents such as blasphemy and pornography on 3rd July 2018.
It was later unblocked after making some changes to age restrictions, security mechanisms, removing negative contents and opening a government liaison office.
