When was it started?
Northwestern Mutual got started on 2nd March 1857 as the Mutual Life Insurance Company of the State of Wisconsin. In 1859, it was established in Milwaukee where they started their job serving their clients from day one.
This was also the time when two of its policyholders died in an accident where an ox and a passenger train collided claiming totaled $3500 that amounted $1500 more than their two-year-old company had on hand. However, the president and its fellow trustees personally borrowed the money to settle out the claims.
Soon the company saw a rapid increase in policy sale in the market and thought of expansion.Now they
issue life and disability insurance, retirement annuities and is also looking on long-term care insurance in collaboration with its subsidiaries.
