Ford Motor Company had its American Market division under the brand name of Mercury. Mercury was founded in 1938, and purpose was to fill the gap between the product lines of Ford & Lincoln cars, primarily started as entry level premium vehicles. Mercury had its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan in United States. As founded this company by Edsel Ford in 1938, on 4th Januray, 2011 this division brand has been defunct. Reason for same was not getting hold on the market as per the Ford motors was covering 16% of the American Automobile and Mercury has only 0.8% of the same, so Company decided to discontinue it and shift the mind of their customers to Lincoln premium vehicles. In last year of continuation of Mercury 95,000 units were sold in whole year and further to replace shortfall of mercury brand, Ford Motors launched additional models of Lincoln.
