Ikea is a Dutch multinational company operating their retail stores in different countries across the world. They are based in Leiden, the Netherlands from where they control the majority of their operations. Since 2008, the company is the largest furniture retailer in the world. The company’s revenue exceeds more than US$ 42 billion in 2016, whereas their total assets in the same year were US$ 66 billion. The company is owned jointly by the Inter Ikea Group and Stichting INGKA Foundation. There are more than 194,000 people employed by the company that makes them one of the biggest employer in the world. Presently, they operate more than 400 locations in 49 countries across Europe, North America, and Asia. The company was established in 1943 by Ingvar Kamprad when he opened their first retail store in Almhuit, Sweden.

There is a great variety of products & services offered by the company that includes furniture, solar PV systems, etc. The furniture sold by them are generally self-assembled and that’s why so popular among the people. They also owns and operate a Russian shopping center chain, named MEGA Family.
All the household products of the company are manufactured in Sweden, whereas they produce other products in under-developed countries for reducing the cost.
In addition to that, Ikea also operates Family Home in the past. It was a mobile virtual network operator who provided their services in the United Kingdom. They started this company on 8 August 2008 but ceased all the operations by 31 August 2015.
