The main headquarters of the company is situated in Essen, Germany from where they control their operations globally. Overall, they operate more than 14,000 supermarket stores in countries, such as Belgium, Australia, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, United States, China, Switzerland, Spain, France, Denmark, United Kingdom, and Poland. They have employed around 104,000 people for controlling their management, selling, and advertising operations. The company’s system operates in two different divisions, named Aldi Sud, and Aldi Nord. The company was established on 23 June 1913 by Karl Albrecht and Theo Albrecht whereas it was split into two different divisions on 10 July 1946.

Through Diskont division, the company operates local stations in Austria in a partnership with GmbH.
