Will Smith was born on September 25, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S to his parents Willard Carroll Smith Sr. and Caroline Bright. His mother was a school board administrator and his father was an U.S Air force veteran. He was raised as a Baptist, along with his younger siblings Harry and Ellen and an elder sister Pamela. Smith attended ‘Overbrook High School’ in Philadelphia. He didn’t do to college to make career in acting and singing.

Will Smith first tried his hands in music, he collaborated with DJ jazzy Jeff and beat boxer, Ready Rock C, they formed a band and released songs like ‘summertime’ and ‘Parents just don’t understand’. During the time 1988-89, Smith got bankrupt, because of unpaid taxes, so as to recover from financial crisis he acted in sitcom ‘The fresh Prince of bel-air’. In 1993, Will made his debut in feature films with the movie Six Degrees of Separation', co-starring Stockard Channing and Donald Sutherland. With the success of the movie, he was cast in 'Bad Boys', two years later, an action movie that also featured Martin Lawrence.In 1996, he played a major role in the movie 'Independence Day', directed by German filmmaker, Roland Emmerich. The movie also starred Bill Pullman, and Jeff Goldblum, amongst others, becoming a huge box-office success.During the next few years, he acted in movies like 'I, Robot', 'Shark Tale', 'Hitch' and 'Pursuit of Happyness'.
