Early life
Vicky was born on 16th May, 1988 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India to Sham and Veena Kaushal. He was raised in Punjabi family having roots in Hoshiarpur, Punjab with his younger brother, Sunny. His interest in the world of entertainment caught up roots within the family as his father is a stuntman and action director in Hindi movies. He attended Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology pursing engineering degree in electronics and telecommunication but soon realised his interest in films after joining his father on film sets. He further joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s academy where he got his first chance as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap for a crime drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012).
Career
Besides working in engineering department for a company he used to join his father on film sets for some work. His first film career job was as an assistant director to Anurag Kashyap for a crime drama, Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) where he was praised for his work and he further managed to get his first acting job under Manav Kaul’s production of Laal Pencil. He went for short stint in major blockbuster films like Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and Bombay Velvet (2015) but came to limelight after getting casted for leading role in Neeraj Ghaywan’s directed drama film, Masaan (2015). The film was such a success that it made to Cannes Film Festival in May 2015 winning two awards. He even received IIFA and Screen Award for his performance in the category of Best Male Debut for the film. He then got featured in other hit film works including Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) in which he was in a lead role of unhinged cop followed by Meghna Gulzar’s directed Indian spy thriller, Raazi (2018) and Rajkumar Hirani’s Indian biographical film, Sanju (2018). He was in supporting role for the latter two highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. His success managed him to get a spot in Forbes India list of 30 Under 30. He even played the leading role of Sanjay Chaturvedi in India’s first Netflix original film, Love per Square Foot (2018). He recently worked for Aditya Dhar’s directed Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) starring alongside Paresh Rawal, Mohit Raina and Yami Gautam.
