We are talking about an American YouTube channel which is co-founded by Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla and is well famous for sketch comedy.
The channel got started up in 2005 and at present has 23.7 million subscribers with 7.9 billion views. Now it is operated by Ian Hecox alone after Anthony made an announcement of leaving the channel in June 2017.
Smosh is considered to be the 86th most viewed and 28th most subscribed channel on YouTube.
Recently, news came up about Smosh and Smosh related channels halted production after their parent company, Defy Media abruptly closed without warning and they decided to make an independent approach in making a video named Smosh is Homeless.
Early life of founders
Talking about Ian Hecox, he was born on 30th November 1987 in Sacramento County, California whereas Daniel Anthony Padilla was born on 16th September 1987 in Sacramento County, California.
Both share the same hometown as a childhood friend after meeting for the first time in their sixth grade science class and American nationality. They both are in the profession of acting and comedy.
Start of channel and journey
Anthony Padilla planned out to start or create a website named “smosh.com” in order to make flash animations in 2002.
This project was later joined by his friend Ian Hecox who thought of starting a YouTube channel in 2005 posting out videos related to comedy.
They initially made several videos lip-syncing on some theme songs getting their first hit with the Pokemon Theme Song from March 12 to May 19, 2006.
It accumulated 4,300,000 views by the time it surpassed eggtea’s “Myspace-The Movie” with 10,600,000 views.
It went on air for 6 months up to 24 million views and was later got removed on copyright issues. Gradually they planned on comical episodes which came out as their real talent on the channel.
This decision turned the channel into the most subscribed channels list from 2007 to 2013.
In 2011, it came under Defy Media and in 2015 they added up some new members to the Smosh family thus working on more elaborated skits. Anthony left out in June 2017 and now it is operated by Ian.
It is estimated to be around 11.8 million U.S. dollars.
