Rand Paul has full name Randal Howard Paul, he is a 56 years old American politician and a medical professional, who is presently serving as the Junior United States Senator from Kentucky from year 2011. In 2016, he announced his nomination for the 2016 US presidential election as a ‘Republican’ candidate. He finished fifth out of the 12 ‘Republican’ candidates.
Early life
Randal Howard Paul was born on January 7, 1963, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to parents Carol and Ron Paul. His father was also a politician and medical practitioner of his time. Paul was raised in Lake Jackson and went to Brazoswood High School, during his school time he was also a good football player. Paul attended ‘Baylor University’ in 1981. There, he was a frequent contributor to ‘The Baylor Lariat,’ a student newspaper. Later he pursued MD degree from Duke University school of Medicine.
Career
Rand Paul first started with his medical career at John Downing McPeak Vision Center and worked there for five years. Then he worked for ten years with Graves Gilbert Clinic. He
was specialized in cataract, LASIK procedures, corneal transplants, and glaucoma surgeries. Talking about his political career, Rand Paul became the leader of young conservatives of Texas. He founded the North Carolina Taxpayers Union in 1991 which was followed by the Kentucky Taxpayers United (KTU), an anti-tax organization he put together in 1994.
Later he was sworn in on the 5th of January 2011 and has been serving as a U.S senator since then.
Personal Life
Rand Paul is married to his wife, Kelley Paul; they tied the wedding knot in year 1980. Kelly Paul is a freelance writer. The married couple has three children together. There is fact that is rarely known by people that, Rand Paul is deaf from one ear. Once he was landed in a trouble, when he was assaulted by his neighbor, Rene Boucher, he survived minor injuries, but later it was revealed, he got six broken ribs. In 2017, Boucher was charged with assaulting a member of ‘Congress,’ and was given a 30-day imprisonment, with a year of supervised released.
Being a philanthropist too, he has done numerous free surgeries for people who can’t afford to go for eye exams or have eye surgeries.
