About Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid is a former Indian Cricketer. He is widely known as the best batsman and wicket keeper of his times, He was often called as ‘The Great Wall’ and ‘Mr. Dependable’ because of his style and stability of batting. He has scored almost 25,000 runs during his international cricketing career. He debuted in international format of cricket in April 1996 and has retired from all forms of cricket in January 2012.
Presently, he is the head coach for Under-19 cricket team and also acts as overseas batting consultant for the Indian Cricket team
Early life
Rahul Sharad Dravid was born on January 11, 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India to parents Sharad Dravid and Pushpa. He was born in a Marathi family; his mother tongue is also Marathi. Talking about his education, he has attended ‘St. Joseph’s Boys High School’ and later was enrolled to ‘St. Joseph’s College of Commerce’ in Bangalore. He has also done a master’s degree in business administration from ‘St. Joseph’s College of Business Administration’.
Career
Rahul Dravid started playing
cricket at a very young age of 12 years. He played for the state of Karnataka at different levels such as under-15, under-17 and under-19 level. He first played in the Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra in Pune in February 1991. He made 82 runs in a game which ended in a draw and he played in the number 7 spot. Dravid made his international debut against Sri Lanka in a one day series in Singapore in 1996. He made his test debut together with Sourav Ganguly versus England. In his tremendous cricketing career, he has played 164 test matches, 344 one day internationals with amazing batting average of over 50 runs in test cricket and 40 runs in one day’s internationals. His highest batting score in test cricket is 270 and in one day international is 153, he has made 36 centuries and 63 half centuries in test cricket and 12 centuries and 83 half centuries in one day internationals. He has also been the vice-captain and captain of Indian cricket team but was not highly appreciated for his captaincy skills. He has also been part of a controversy when match referee found him guilty of doing ball tampering and applying ‘Lozenge’ to ball, Dravid was also fined for his act in 2004.
For his cricketing career, Dravid has also received many awards and accolades, which includes many prestigious trophies, he has received Arjuna Award in 1998, Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2013 etc.
Personal Life
Rahul Dravid is a married man; he has tied the wedding knot with his wife Vijeta Pendharkar, who is a surgeon by profession on May 4, 2003. The married also has two children together from their marriage; their first son Samit was born in year 2005 and their second son Anvay was born in 2009.
Over the course of time, Rahul Dravid has also released his autobiographies named ‘Rahul Dravid-A Biography’ and ‘The Nice Guy Finished First’.
