RJ Burns or Rory Joseph Burns is 28 years old English left-handed opening batsman and a wicket keeper. He is known for playing as captain for domestic cricket club Surrey in both List A and first class games. He also plays internationally for England since 2018.
Early Life
RJ Burns was born on 26th August, 1990 in Epsom, Surrey, England as Rory Joseph Burns. He started playing cricket at young age further managing his selection in Surrey County Cricket Club through his impressive consistency in compact game, centred on his dexterity off his legs and driving through the covers. Aside from cricket he also likes playing golf. He has attended City of London Freeman’s School, Ashtead and Cardiff Metropolitan University to complete his education.
Career
Starting with his domestic career, he made an entry in Surrey County Cricket Club by playing Second XI followed by his first class debut in 2011 against Cambridge MCCU. He has also played for Hampshire and has scored his first century against Leeds Bradford MCCU in 2012 season further making a final
score of 741 runs with an average of 49.4 in whole season. In next season he made the opening of the game for Surrey scoring 1000 runs in a single season thus making a record in 2014. But unfortunately he went through an accident on field by colliding with teammate Moises Henriques in a NatWest T20 Blast which turned out to be unconscious like situation for both the players. Henriques got broken jaw from three places and Burns went for stitches after cut near his left eye. Soon he made his comeback going for highest score with first class game in July 2017 that turned out to be of score 219. This game was also considered to be his first one as captain of Surrey. Under his leadership the club managed to get the first County Championship title in 2018. He ended the season with 1359 runs at an average of 64.71. This was also the year when he got selected for England’s Test squad where he has to play against Sri Lanka in a series. Recently, he has played another test series against West Indies in February 2019.
