About Mitt Romney
We are talking about an American multimillionaire financier who served at the position of governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and was also named as the Republican Presidential candidate in 2008 and 2012. At present, he is appointed at the position of United States Senator from Utah.
Early life
He was born on 12th March, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to George Romney and Lenore Romney and was named as Willard Mitt Romney. He was youngest among four siblings and was born in family with the Mormon faith. His father was a successful business executive whereas mother was an aspiring actress. His father also served at the position of governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969 and was also appointed as secretary of housing and urban development in the cabinet of U.S. President Richard M. Nixon. He went for Stanford University in California but left out his studies to attend a 30-month missionary campaign for the Mormon Church in France. He finally got graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University majoring in English in 1971. He also earned J.D. and M.B.A. from Harvard University in 1975.
Career
After completing his education he started as an investment consultant in private sector with Boston-based consulting firm, Bain & Company, followed by spin-off company, Bain Capital, which was started by him with Coleman Andrews and Eric Kriss in 1984. This firm did a multimillion-dollar business. He later decided to try his luck in politics and made an unsuccessful run for the U.S Senate in 1994 but soon after some years he managed to generate some fire in his political career with successful appearance as president and CEO of then struggling Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics. He became governor of Massachusetts in 2003 and oversaw the reduction of a $3 billion deficit. He also signed into law a health-care reform program for Massachusetts residents. He later made a run for the U.S. presidency in 2008 election losing to candidate John McCain and the second run for the same position to Barack Obama in a tight race in 2012. He managed to rejoin the board of directors of Marriott International and then became the executive partner group chairman of Solamere Capital. In February 2018, he ran for the U.S. Senate seat in Utah that was vacated by the retiring Orrin Hatch. In November 2018, he was elected to the Senate and is now serving with Mike Lee assuming the office from 3rd January, 2019.
Personal life
He got married to Ann Davies in 1969. Ann was his high school sweetheart and both met while attending public elementary school and started dating each other while being in senior year attending the prep school Cranbrook. Both together are parents of five sons; Tagg, Matt, Josh, Ben and Craig.
