Early life

Li Ka-Shing was born on July 29, 1928, which makes him 90 years old. He was born in Guangdong province, China. He was born in a middle class family; his father was a school teacher. Li Ka-Shing faced many difficulties and struggle in his early life, his father died of tuberculosis when Li Ka-Shing was just 15 years old. Li Ka-Shing has not done much study, he was a school dropped out, and he left studies to support his family financially. He worked in plastics trading company as a sales man of plastic material.

Career

Li Ka-Shing afterworking in plastic industries, started his own business, a plastics company named Cheung Kong in 1950. The Company first manufactured and exported artificial flowers to the United States. The Company kept on growing and soon it tasted success and Li was able to make good money from the enterprise. He purchased a factory in 1958; it was his first real estate investment.Soon he shifted his focus and transformed into a property development and management company.The business thrived over the following years and the company was renamed Cheung Kong Holdings in 1971. It was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972.
His business was expanded when he acquired Hutchison Whampoa from HSBC in 1979. He added many diverse industries to his existing business and transformed Hutchison into the world’s largest independent operator of ports, with investments in container port facilities around the world, including in Hong Kong, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Rotterdam, Panama, Bahamas and many others.
He also has a 0.8% share in social networking website Facebookand also has a share in Ginger Software.

Personal Life

Li Ka-Shing was married and a widower now. He has married a woman named Chong Yuet Ming in year 1963, she died in year 1990. Li Ka-Shing has two sons which he named Victor Li and Richard Li. They are also doing great work in business, Victor Li is working as the chairman of CK Hutchison Holdings and Richard Li is the head of PCCW, which is the largest telecomm network in Hong Kong.
Li Ka-Shing is also a well-known philanthropist and has made millions of donations for many charitable causes. He has also set up a foundation named ‘Li Ka-shing foundation, it was founded in year 1990.
