Jay Z Bio
Jay Z is a rapper, musician and investor well known for his hip-hop genre of music. He is one of the most influential figures in hip-hop in the 1990s and the early 21st century. He has received 21 Grammy Awards, honoured at the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 and has also received the “Salute to Industry Icons Award” at the 60th Grammy Awards. We can simply call him one of the acclaimed rappers of all time.
Early Life
Jay Z was born on 4th December 1969 in New York City, United States as Shawn Corey Carter. He was raised by her mother with his 3 siblings after his father left family behind alone in Brooklyn, New York. He was born to Gloria Carter and Adness Reeves. He completed his studies from George WestingHouse Career and Technical Education High School but he didn’t completed his graduation. He was involved in selling of cracked cocaine in his early life. Soon he realised to find a way to escape from the drugs and turned as a rapper in young age.
Musical career
His musical career was just marked as an escape to keep distance from drugs. In 1989, he joined rapper Jaz-O for recording a song named The Originators. This song won the pair an appearance on an episode of Yo! MTV Raps. Soon after that he managed to found a record label, Roc-a Fella of their own with two friends, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke in 1996. He started releasing records in 1990’s. His best albums include Reasonable Doubt (1996), The Blueprint (2001) and The Black Album (2003) that over took all the Billboard charts. His hit singles include Dirt off Your Shoulder, Girl Girl Girl, Song Cry and many more. In 2003, he announced his retirement as a performer and the following year he assumed the presidency of Def Jam Recordings. He collaborated with the rock group Linkin Park in 2004 and even made guest appearances as a guest vocalist with many other artists like Kanye West, Beyonce and many more. He stayed active in music and alongside developed a large portfolio of business ventures and investments including a clothing line and a stake in the New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association.
In 2007, he released album American Gangster and stepped down as Def Jam president further releasing The Blueprint 3 in 2008 which gave him Grammy win for two songs; Empire State of Mind and Run This Town. He also made a release of his 13th studio solo album, 4:44, in 2017 which again turned out a hit on Billboard charts. In June 2018, he with Beyonce kicked-off the On the Run II Tour in United Kingdom and also went for release of their joint studio album, Everything Is Love, under the name The Carters. The lead song, Apeshit, from the album won two awards from eight nominations at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.
Personal Life
Jay Z got married to Beyonce in 2008 and is blessed with a baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter in 2012. Beyonce also recently gave birth to twins with Jay Z; a daughter Rumi and a son, Sir.
