Janet Jackson is a 53-year-old American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress. She is the best selling artist in contemporary music of all time in the world.
With over 160 million records being sold out and holding the record of having most consecutive top-ten entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 she is being cited as an inspiration among many performers.
In 2016, Janet received the second position after Madonna to be the most successful dance club artist in the world. She recently got inducted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Janet Jackson was born on 16th May 1966 in Gary, Indiana as Janet Damita Jo Jackson to Katherine and Joe Jackson. She was the ninth and the youngest child in a lower-middle-class family.
She completed her education from Lanai Road Elementary School, Portola Middle School and finally graduated from Valley Professional School in 1984.
After graduation, she eloped with James DeBarge in a brief marriage that got an annulment in January 1985.
Beginning of career in acting
Janet pursued acting at the early age of seven before moving towards the musical career. Her first performance was at the MGM Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. In 1976, the American variety show, The Jacksons, witnessed her acting performance getting her an impressive role of Penny Gordon Woods in the American sitcom, Good Times.
She continued her short-lived television career doing popular sitcoms like A New Kind of Family, Fame and Different Strokes.

#First contract
Janet Jackson got her first musical contract with A&M Records at the age of 16 releasing out her debut album, Janet Jackson in 1982 under the guidance of her brother Michael.
This album hit the Billboard 200 chart by achieving 63rd position with three hit singles including "Young Love" and "Give Your Love to Me".
#Fame Her second album, Dream Street (1984) also got positioned at no. 147 on Billboard 200 but the real phase of fame came with her third album, Control in 1986. The album took over the musical market reaching at no. 1 position on Billboard 200.
It got certified fivefold-platinum by RIAA with its selling reaching over ten million copies. Her next albums; Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989) and Janet (1993) were other two big hits of her career.
In the latter album, she worked on exploring sexuality in her music which granted her the title of a sex symbol. This was also the year for her film debut in Poetic Justice.
In 1997, she released out her sixth album, The Velvet Rope, expressing lyrics on social issues. The album got positioned number one on Billboard 200 getting certified triple platinum.

Janet Jackson was 18 when she got married to James DeBarge in 1984. The marriage didn't last long and got annulled in 1985. Four years later she met with Rene Elizondo Jr. and went for a secret marriage getting divorced in 2000.
She even came in a relationship with Jermaine Dupri before dating Wissam Al Mana in 2010. In 2012, both got married and she gave birth to her first child, Eissa Al Mana in January 2017. The couple is now looking forward to divorce proceedings.
