Early life
Giannis Antetokounmpo was born on December 6, 1994, in Athens, Greece. Although of Nigerian Descent, his family relocated in Greece after 1991. Giannis has four siblings, neither of them is having citizenship of either Greece or Nigeria, they are stateless persons due to some illegality related to birth. All the four brothers lived, in constant fear of being deported by police and always remained introvert and didn’t mixed up with the children of same age. Antetokounmpo and his brother Thanasis began playing basketball in year 2007 and they played for Filathlitikos senior’s team for three years.
Career
Giannis Antetokounpo started his professional career in year 2013, when he was selected in NBA draft for Milwaukee Bucks. He played in 77 matches in year 2013-14 and maintained an average of 6.8 points in season. In 2014, Bucks extended their contract with Antetokounmpo for two seasons 2014-15 and 2015-16. He averaged 27 points in second year as a rookie. In early 2015, he earned his first ‘player of the week’ honor. For 2014-15, Giannis achieved an average of 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds from 81 appearances, missing only one game. During 2016-17 seasons , he performed very well, he hold an average of consistent 16 points. In September 2016, Giannis’s contract with Bucks extended for four years’ worth $100 million. Giannis again won the ‘Eastern Player of the Week’ in December 2016 for his appearances from November 28th to December 4th. His 2nd triple double for the 2016-17 season (and 7th overall) was accomplished in the game against Portland Trail Blazers on 7th December which Bucks won. Giannis became the first Bucks player to be honored with the ‘NBA Most Improved Player Award’ for the 2016-17 Season. He continued to play an important role as a Milwaukee Bucks team member, maintaining his brilliant performance. Antetokounmpo was also thepart of the senior Greek national basketball team for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
