About F du Plessis

F du Plessis or Francois du Plessis is 34 years old South African right-handed batsman and right-arm leg-break bowler. He is currently representing the national team as captain in all formats of cricket game whereas on the domestic side he plays for the Titans.

Early Life

F du Plessis was born on 13th July 1984 in Pretoria, Transvaal Province, South Africa as Francois du Plessis. He completed his education attending Afrikaanse Hoer Seunskool and got graduated from the University of Pretoria. He has a sports background in a family with father being the rugby player for Northern Transvaal in the 1980s and a second cousin Marcel du Plessis who is a Namibian rugby player. He also has a sister named Rhemi who is been engaged to his fellow international cricketer Hardus Viljoen.

Career

F du Plessis started his career in cricket after signing a contract of Kolpak deal in 2007 with Lancashire. He made his attempt for other opportunities in abroad thus did not manage to fast-track himself into the international spotlight. He finally made his
 
 
comeback to home to play domestic cricket finally topping the MTN40 run charts in 2010-11 with 576 runs in 10 matches. Soon his Kolpak deal got ended and he made his move getting selected in South Africa’s one-day squad against India in home series in 2011. He scored a half-century that further paved his way to make his spot in the World Cup. Next year he entered in the squad for a Test match against England but didn’t made an appearance and instead got a T20 debut later getting Test debut against Australia with his first-inning where he scored 78 in the second Test in Adelaide. He also scored 110 runs facing 376 balls and helping South Africa to reach up to draw in the series. In the same year, he was also offered the captaincy of the team facing New Zealand in T20 after AB de Villiers stepped down from the post on February 2013. He also played against India with the same pace having full ability to shift gears and anchor in the innings. In Johannesburg he scored 136 in second innings leaving the team within 8 runs of completing the highest successful Test chase, 458 finally getting a draw. His first century came by 51st ODI against Australia in 2014 followed by two more hundreds in that series by him. In 2015, he represented the nation in the World Cup in good form and turned out to be the second South African to score a T20I century after Richard Levi. Next season was hard for him as he just only managed to score fifty in his 12 innings of that season. This form lets him loose the Test match against England in 2016. In 2017, he again took over the captaincy of South Africa across all formats. Aside from the national side, he has made his appearance in many leagues teams like Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants and the Melbourne Renegades. He recently got placed as South Africa’s team captain to represent in 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Personal Life

He is in a marital relationship with Imari Visser, his long-time girlfriend. Both have a beautiful daughter named Amelie du Plessis.
