Ellen DeGeneres is an American Comedian, actor, television host and a prominent Gay/Lesbian supporter cum role model. She is well known for appearing in popular Sitcom ‘Ellen’ from 1994 to 1998. She is also been host of popular and award winning talk show ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ since 2003. In 2009 she was entitled ‘Women of the Year’ by PETA. In 2011 she was appointed special envoy by Hillary Clinton for ‘Global Aids Awareness’ and, In 2014 she was ranked 46 in the ‘Most Powerful Women in the World’ list by Forbes.
Early life
Ellen DeGeneres was born on January 26, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana to Betty DeGeneres and Elliott DeGeneres. She has one brother, her parents got divorced early, and she stayed with her mother and her brother stayed with her father. She has completed her elementary and high school education from ‘Grace King high School’ and ‘Atlanta High School’. She later joined communication studies from ‘University of New Orleans’ and soon dropped out to do find a job and earn her livelihood.
Career
Ellen DeGeneres started her career as comedian in clubs and bars. During 1980s she became the ‘emcee’ at the ‘Clyde’s Comedy Club’ in New Orleans. She was named as the ‘Funniest Person in America’ by American television network ‘Showtime’. In 1986 she appeared in ‘The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’ and in Sitcom ‘Open House’. She also appeared in various movies Trevor (1994), Goodbye Lover (1998), Doctor Do little (1998), Pauly Shore is Dead (2003), Edtv (1999), The Love Letter (1999), Coneheads (1993) and Mr. Wrong (1996). In 1992, she was starred in Sitcom ‘Laurie Hill’ where she portrayed the character of Nancy Macintyre. She also hosted and presented ‘Grammy Awards’ in 1996 and next year also. In the year 1997, while appearing on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ she confessed of being a Lesbian. Her noticeable work is her appearance on ‘The Ellen Show’ and her talk show ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’. She has also given her voice in movie Finding Nemo. In 2001 she also represented Emmy awards. She has also been judge of American Idol in 2010. In 2014, she also hosted ‘Academy Awards’ for second time. Apart from acting, she worked with company ‘Procter and Gamble’.
Personal Life
Ellen DeGeneres being a Lesbian herself is a great supporter/role model/activist for LGBT Community. She has been in relationships with actresses Anne Heche & Alexandra Hedison. In 2008, she married her longtime girlfriend/ally Portia de Rossi. The couple is happily married and lives together in Beverly Hills. They have lot of pets dogs and cats.
