About EJG MorganEJG Morgan or Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan is Ireland born English left-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler. He has made international debut for both Ireland and England and at present plays for domestic club Middlesex. Early LifeEJG Morgan was born on 10th September 1986 in Dublin, Ireland to Olivia and Jody Morgan. He got raised in Ireland receiving education from Catholic University School on Leeson Street further attending Dulwich College based on his cricketing career. He also have four siblings; Gareth, Gavin, Laura and Gwen Morgan. He started playing cricket since he was in school getting three senior cup titles. He desired to play for England and this came true after representing Ireland at U-17 and U-19 level. He also represented Ireland in U-19 World Cup being the top-scorer for his team followed by holding the captaincy for the team.
CareerHe started his cricket career with Ireland at the age of 16 where he played his first ODI match against Scotland making a hit of 99 further getting signed by England’s domestic club Middlesex. He made a record in this inning with being the only player in the history of cricket to have been dismissed for 99 on debut. With Middlesex club he made his first debut just after a week of celebrating his 19th birthday. His presence in 2007 World Cup didn’t came out as expected as he scored just 91 runs in nine games but he moved on with better performance in Middlesex line. He was also called upon by Ireland for the 2011World Cup in April 2009 but he denied the offer to keep his side with England. He rose to prominence soon at age 23 when he went for two match-winning innings against South Africa where in the first one he got 67 in 34 balls in the Champions Trophy in September 2009 and next was the 85 in 45 balls in the opening Twenty20 of England’s tour of South Africa. He even appeared in Indian Premier League but failed to make an impression and returned to play for England in World Twenty20 in the Caribbean thus helping the team in limited over game. Soon he was called for England’s first test of the 2010 summer against Bangladesh further making high points with centuries against Pakistan in 2010 and India in 2011. He was also chosen for 50-over World Cup held in 2011 and became the fourth player to represent two different nations in Cricket World Cup. Next he got selected for Sri Lanka Test series where he scored 168 runs in four innings including two half-centuries plus 158 runs in the ODI series. This was also the year when he got named as vice-captain for T20 side. In 2012 he was dropped from the test team while touring Sri Lanka because of his below par performances. He made a come back in the ODI against Australia followed by getting named as vice-captain for squad for the West Indies tour and T20 WC in 2014. He was also placed as captain of ODI squad but the team suffered and he got inspired to rebrand the team with the support of Andrew Strauss, the Director of Cricket by ECB thus allowing players to play freely and participate in IPLs which helped England to change the situation drastically. He is now the all-time leading run scorer for England in ODI matches after surpassing the record set by Ian Bell on 19th June 2018 and as of February 2019 has scored 5,813 ODI runs for England.
