He made a record in this inning with being the only player in the history of cricket to have been dismissed for 99 on debut. With Middlesex club he made his first debut just after a week of celebrating his 19th birthday. His presence in 2007 World Cup didn’t came out as expected as he scored just 91 runs in nine games but he moved on with better performance in Middlesex line. He was also called upon by Ireland for the 2011World Cup in April 2009 but he denied the offer to keep his side with England. He rose to prominence soon at age 23 when he went for two match-winning innings against South Africa where in the first one he got 67 in 34 balls in the Champions Trophy in September 2009 and next was the 85 in 45 balls in the opening Twenty20 of England’s tour of South Africa. He even appeared in Indian Premier League but failed to make an impression and returned to play for England in World Twenty20 in the Caribbean thus helping the team in limited over game. Soon he was called for England’s first test of the 2010 summer against Bangladesh further making high points with centuries against Pakistan in 2010 and India in 2011. This was also the year when he got named as vice-captain for T20 side. In 2012 he was dropped from the test team while touring Sri Lanka because of his below par performances. He made a come back in the ODI against Australia followed by getting named as vice-captain for squad for the West Indies tour and T20 WC in 2014.
