About CR Woakes
CR Woakes or Christopher Roger Woakes is 30 years old English right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler. He currently plays for domestic club Warwickshire whereas on the national side he made his first debut in T20 international match against Australia in 2011.
Early Life
CR Woakes was born on 2nd March 1989 in Birmingham, West Midlands, England as Christopher Roger Woakes. He completed his education attending Barr Beacon Language College in 2007 and thereafter joined Aston Manor Cricket Club. He started taking interest in cricket at the young age of seven and continued his early career by playing in Minor Counties Trophy in 2006 for three games for Herefordshire followed by playing in U-15, U-17 teams for Warwickshire. He also made it to Second XI between 2004 and 2007.
Career
Since at age 7, he started playing cricket and was with Warwickshire representing the team in Second XI championship in 2006 where he got three wickets. He continued his game with the club making his First XI debut in 2008 and going for 42 wickets at
20.57 in the County Championship season. This made him top the bowling chart getting his entry into the England Lions further making it to the squad of 2009 T20 WC. Aside from getting bowling credits, he has also some First-Class centuries as a handy batsman counting an unbeaten 131 against Hampshire. He also contributed a great partnership of 222 runs for the ninth wicket with Jonathan Trott. In 2011, he came up with international debut in T20 match against Australia whereas ODI debut was made against Australia in Sydney in 2011. This was also the season of recording his career-best figures of 6/45 against Australia in Brisbane. He went for Test debut in 2013 against Australia in the Ashes series after Tim Bresnan took a leave on the injury. His Sri Lanka tour also came out to be productive as he got a call to play in 2014 T20 WC on replacement of Ben Stokes. On the same day, he went for another career-best of 9 for 36 against Durham. He further played in three Tests in succession against India and went for unbeaten 95 to help England to an unlikely tie in an ODI at Trent Bridge. He also joined various leagues like IPL in 2017 playing for Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Next, he went through difficult Ashes tour further getting dropped from the Test side in New Zealand but he luckily managed to score his maiden Test century against India at Lord’s in 2018. Recently, he got selected in England’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Achievements
In 2016, he received the Wisden’s Cricketer of the Year award.
Personal Life
He is in a marital relationship with Amie. Both dated for a long time before deciding to tie the knot. They have a beautiful daughter named Laila Louise born in 2018.
