Zoomcar is among the first of its type in self-driving car rental business in India. It is privately owned business by its founder Greg Moran and David Back since 2013 and is headquartered in Bangalore, India. Currently it is counting its services in over 27 cities in the country.
How it started?
The idea of starting with such a unique business came in the mind of David Back and Greg Moran, the American duo who met while studying at the University of Pennsylvania. They completed their graduation in 2007 and moved in to business school. Later both dropped out the studies to plan for a business in India and initiated a new venture in February, 2013.
They initially looked for investors on individual basis which include Vice-Dean of International Legal Studies at Harvard Law School William P. Alford, the former director of the Cambridge Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies Shai Vyalarnam, Former US Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers, Chair of the UK Institute of Directors Lady Barbara Judge and Wharton Statistics Chair Edward George.
Aside from them institutional investors also helped out in the business including Nokia Growth Partners, Athene Capital, Ford Motor Company, Sequoia Capital, Basset Investment Group, Venture Souk, OurCrowd, FundersClub, Empire Angels, Cyber Carrier CL and Globevestor.

How it works?
They just allow their customers to perform some easy steps to start with the ride. You just have to visit the website and book a car of your choice and place the timing. Then driver’s license is uploaded with a pay of small security deposit.
They then offer a SMS just 20 minutes before pickup which is required to get all details about car you have chosen via the Zoomcar app. Filling out the checklist you are offered the keys from the glove-box to start the ride.
Even there is no hassle to return the car as you just need to visit the place with car from where you picked it up and go for some end checklist details for ending the trip.
