We are here talking about the London’s largest bus operators who are committed to operate in total of 115 bus routes with over 2,300 buses under a contract. The company is employing over 7,600 staff and cover the quarter of London’s buses with vehicles travelling 80 million miles annually on over 165 day, night and school routes.
When and how it started?
The bus service was initiated by the Go-Ahead Group of NewCastle in September 1994 after the privatisation of London Buses limited. Upon privatisation the company acquired London Central and London General to go for expansion. This turned the business profitable and they managed to acquire some other companies like Metrobus, Docklands Minibuses Ltd and Blue Triangle Buses Ltd in line generating a single network for transport in London.
They also purchased East Thames Buses, Northumberland Park Depot, River Road Depot and most recently the Greenwich Depot in 2017 finally getting the opportunity to operate from various sites in the capital.
They are also included in the FTSE 250 and are listed on London Stock Exchange.
How long their contract works?
They are working under a controlled and regulated environment to Transport for London (TFL) with contracts being awarded for 5 or 7 years via a rolling tendering programme.
Where they provide the bus service?
They operates in east, central, south, southeast and southwest London covering almost quarter of London’s buses with depots in operation at Croydon, Greenwich, Barking, Bexleyheath, Camberwell, Silvertown, Putney, Orpington, New Cross, Sutton, Peckham, Tottenham, Stockwell, Waterloo and Wimbledon. They also have routes towards Surrey and Essex county councils plus the depot in Luton that deals with operations on Luton Airport Parkway shuttle service.
Do they deal in rail operations?
Yes, they are also active in rail services becoming the busiest in the UK and serving around 25% of all train passenger journeys. Not only this, they provide three rail operations in Germany which proven out to be safe, reliable and value-for-money services for passengers.
