They have employed more than 161,000 employees for providing their services in their store. The company owns almost 3, 500 stores that are situated across seven countries and three continents. On June 24, 2015, the company merged with Ahold Delhaize. This organization also operates several subsidiaries named as Food Lion, Hannaford Brother Company, Mega Images, Maxi Tempo Centre and Kash n Karry.
The company was founded by Jules Delhaize and his brothers Auguste, Edouard and Adolphe. At that time, the logo of the organization was a lion which resembles strength. The company collaborated with the United States Environment Protection Agency’s Energy Star for managing their energy efficiency. In 1983, they acquired Food Town Stores and made its entry in the United States. The company opened their first American store in Atlanta. They also bought Kash n Karry which was a grocery chain firm. The company sold their Czech store to Billa in 2007.
