Tumblr is an American social networking site which is in market since 2007. This site is well known in social networking business for micro blogging. It got founded on 19th February, 2007 by David Karp and is headquartered in New York City. Oath Inc. acquired the company in 2017 as parent organization after Yahoo! Inc. and now it is ranked 59 among 500 top most companies on Alexa rank.
Recently, the site reported 341 million Tumblr blogs and billions of blog posts.
How it started?
David Karp was interested in tumblelogs and was looking to work on the blogging platform to introduce out his own tumblelogging platform in 2006 as no one such has done it before so he planned to join hands with Marco Arment, the developer. This idea worked out with the launch of Tumblr in February 2007.
The idea took a high jump within two weeks of its launch gaining 75,000 users. Soon the major brands got ready to put up their advertising campaigns on the site. In 2013, it was acquired by Yahoo! Inc. and later came under Verizon Communication’s subsidiary Oath in
2017.
