This wireless communication brand was founded by Brian McAuley, Mark Warner, Peter Reinheimer, and Morgan E. O’Brien. However, it merged all their operations with Sprint Corporation in 2005. Prior to this merger, it was publicly traded company. According to 2004 financial records, the company’s revenue was more than US$ 13 billion, while their net income in the same year was US$ 3 billion. The employ force of company was more than 19,000 people all over the globe. Despite the 2005 merger, the company’s name remains in the market till 2013 after that Sprint shut down its network. In addition to the United States, the company operating in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Philippines, and Argentina. At the time of the merger, the company had over 20 million subscribers in North America.

Nextel Merger
The company merged with Sprint Corporation on 15 December 2004 for forming Sprint Nextel Corporation. Before this acquisition, Sprint was the third biggest telecommunication company in the US market. This merger was approved by the US Department of Justice and US Federal Communications Commission on 3rd August 2005. The NII Holdings has been a licensor of the company. However, it was sold to Sprint Corporation after the merger.
