MRT Bangkok Metro
MRT fully abbreviated as Metropolitan Rapid Transit is transit system of Bangkok Metropolitan Region. In 2018, the daily ridership of transit was 420, 000 whereas annual ridership of the transit system is 92.5 million. The MRT began their operation on July 3, 2004. The operator of the transit system is Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company. The main head office of the metro system situated in Din Daeng, Bangkok.
The metro system currently controls two lines connecting 24 stations. MRT was also working on new upcoming lines which are Orange Line, Pink Line, Yellow Line, and Brown Line. The new lines can be used to connect prime areas in the country. On 17 January 2005, an accident happened in which an empty train returning crashed with a peak-hour train.
History
The first line of Metro System was known as Chaloem Ratchamongkhon. Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand provides its civil structure. The construction of the Metro System began on 19 November 1996. On 13 April 2004, the blue line opened for public. In 2016, the MRT purple line
opened for service. All the station have multiple passageways which help passages whereas platform screen door installed for the public.
The Metro System also has 19 three-car trains of Siemens Modular Metro type. There are several items not allowed in the station named as a photo or video shoot, smoking, eating food and drink, sitting on the floor and littering. All the Metro train includes two motor cars and center trailer cars.
Ticketing
The metro system uses Radio-Frequency Identification technology with round tokens. There are two types of Smart Cards available for users. All the stations have automated ticket machines. The student not more than 23 years old get a 10% discount.
